Choosing the right fabric for everyday lingerie

Why microfibre and stretch lace behave differently and when each makes sense
Fabric choice is the decision most clients find hardest, because it is difficult to judge from a description alone. This article explains the three main fabric types we use at Cron Renown, how each one behaves in daily wear and what to consider when choosing between them.
Microfibre: the everyday standard
Microfibre is a synthetic fabric made from very fine polyester or nylon fibres. The fineness of the fibres is what gives it its smooth surface and its ability to lie flat against the skin without texture. It is the fabric we use for the body of most bras and panties because it is consistent, washable and holds its shape well over time.
The main consideration with microfibre is breathability. It is less breathable than cotton, which matters in warm weather. For most clients in Japan, where summers are humid, we recommend the microfibre for autumn through spring and discuss cotton-blend options for summer orders.
Stretch lace: for trim or full coverage
Stretch lace is used as a trim on the neckline of the custom bra and as a full-coverage option for the panty. As a trim it adds a visual detail without adding bulk. As a full-coverage fabric it is more breathable than microfibre but has a texture that is visible under very thin clothing.
The lace we use has a four-way stretch, which means it moves with the body rather than pulling in one direction. Not all stretch lace behaves this way, and the difference in comfort is significant.
Double-layer jersey: for the bralette
The soft bralette uses a double-layer stretch jersey rather than microfibre. Jersey is a knit fabric with a natural give that makes it comfortable without any structure. The double layer adds enough opacity for everyday wear without adding stiffness.
Jersey does not hold its shape as firmly as microfibre over time, which is why we use it for the bralette rather than for structured bras. For a wire-free piece worn on rest days or at home, it is the right choice.
The swatch card we send before cutting shows all current fabric options in person, which is the only reliable way to judge colour and texture.
