How to wear invisible underwear under fitted clothing

What actually prevents visible lines and what does not
The promise of invisible underwear is simple: wear it and no one can tell. The reality is more specific. Whether underwear shows under clothing depends on the seam placement, the fabric thickness, the fit and the type of outer garment. This article covers what actually determines visibility and what to look for.
Why seams show
A seam creates a step change in fabric thickness. Under a fitted garment, that step change creates a shadow or a ridge that is visible from the outside. The seam does not need to be large to show. Even a flat-lock seam can be visible under very thin jersey or silk.
construction reduces this by eliminating the seam at the most visible points: the cup edge, the leg opening and the back band. These are the three places where underwear lines are most commonly visible.
Fabric thickness and colour
Thick fabric shows more than thin fabric under fitted clothing, regardless of seam placement. Microfibre is thin enough to be effectively invisible under most outer fabrics. Lace, which has a textured surface, can show a pattern through very thin outer layers.
Colour matching matters more than most people expect. A nude shade close to your skin tone disappears under white or light-coloured clothing in a way that white underwear does not. We include a colour guide with the swatch card that shows which shades work best under different outer fabric colours.
Fit as the final variable
A piece that fits correctly lies flat against the body. A piece that is too tight pulls the fabric taut and creates tension lines. A piece that is too loose bunches and creates bulk. Both show under fitted clothing in different ways.
This is the argument for custom fit that is hardest to make in the abstract and easiest to understand once you have worn a piece that fits correctly. The fabric simply lies where it is supposed to lie.
The combination of construction, the right fabric shade and a correct fit is what makes the difference. Any one of the three alone is only part of the answer.
