How to care for custom lingerie so it lasts
By Cron Renown atelier,
A well-made piece of lingerie should last several years with reasonable care. The most common reasons custom pieces wear out early are washing at the wrong temperature, machine-drying and storing bras folded in half. None of these are complicated to avoid.
Washing: hand wash or a mesh bag
Microfibre and stretch lace both respond well to hand washing in cool water with a gentle detergent. If you use a washing machine, a mesh laundry bag on a delicate cycle at 30 degrees Celsius is acceptable. The mesh bag prevents the fabric from snagging on other items and reduces the mechanical stress of the drum.
Hot water degrades the elastic fibres in the fabric over time. Even if the piece looks fine after a hot wash, the stretch recovery will be reduced. Cool water is the single most important variable.
Drying: flat, not hung
Hanging a wet bra by the strap stretches the strap under the weight of the wet fabric. Lay pieces flat on a clean towel to dry. This takes longer but preserves the shape of the cup and the length of the strap.
Machine drying is not recommended for any piece in the collection. The heat affects the elastic and the microfibre surface.
Storage: cups forward, not folded
Store bras with the cups facing forward, one nested inside the other. Folding a bra in half collapses the cup shape over time. A drawer with enough space to lay bras flat is ideal. If space is limited, a small hanging organiser with individual pockets works well.
When to contact us
If a piece loses its shape or fit within the first year of normal wear, contact us. We keep your measurements on file for two years and can assess whether the issue is a fit problem or a wear problem. Alterations and refitting are available for all pieces in the collection.
Two or three well-fitted pieces in rotation, cared for properly, will usually last longer than a bigger drawer of pieces that are washed hard and worn until they give up.
